A Curious Soldier

I thought of this short story a long time ago..
about when i was in 9th grade.
we were assigned to do some short story about
anything. so i came up with this one. hope you like it!:)


it was dawn.
a soldier was walking on was once a great populated city.
now only remnants of its greatness remains.
he got separated with his division.
walking on the streets he's was searching
for his comrades, until something caught his eye.
it appears to be a baby crying on the other side of the road.
there was nobody there.
he can't just leave it alone there, crying waiting to be eaten by some dog.
he decided to get the baby.
so he went of to the other side of the road.
then he noticed a wild hungry rabid dog who looks like he's gonna have baby for
dinner.
the soldier hurried to get the baby. and then suddenly,
he stepped on a mine.
the mine blew him away and he ricochet
near the baby. the wild dog ran away in fear of the explosion.
badly injured he crawled to get the baby to see if its Okay.
But to his surprise. it was just a baby doll..
the soldier who almost risked his life for this doll crawled around the corner
and laughed hysterically.
then he lid up a cigarette and eventually died.
